The differences between Technics SL1200' s and SL1210's
More than just the color...

Talk to Al Boogie at University of Virginia via da BRONX!!! The newer Technics 1210 version is a little more than just the phat black color. According to Brotha Boogie, the original SL1200's have the quickest pick up, quicker than the 1210's. However 1210's sacrifice a little bit of this pick up for stability.

Brian Dresner reports that the start/stop speed difference of a 1210 is about .1 of a second than a 1200. A turntablist named Chris, from Sydney Austrailia wrote saying,
"The only difference between the 1200 and 1210's is the power source within the turntable that compensates for the 0.1 second difference. The 1200 is the only turntable officaially realeased by Technics in the USA, the 1210 is not officially made for the US, and you will notice that under the plater it has a switch for 110/220v while the US version does not have this. The 1200 versions for the rest of the world have the switch under the plater. So if you compare a US 1200 with a Japanese version 1200 the difference will be 0.1 of a second, because of the internal power transformer. "

American Vs. European

Al Boogie also reports that if you happen to order a Technics 1200 from Europe, not only does it come with an adapter since it has a different plug, but its stop or start is not as fast as an American model.

I dunno about you, but once you go Technics, you never go back. I first used a x11800 Gemini turntable. It had the pitch control and everything, but when you pulled back, cut, and let go to get a replay, it dragged, BADLY. Like if the lyric was "Rappers are in Danger!" You'd pull back and when you let go you'd get a horrid sounding, "Rrrrrrraaapers are in danger!" I hated it, but it's a good learning device because once you get good on a Gemini, you'll be damn good on a Big T-1200. It's also nice on the pockets too, for those of you, like myself, who have to budget.

Check this, this is Midknight. Somebody wrote me asking about the Vestax PDT-5000's. Now I'm not one to usually have brand loyalty, but Tech 1200's and 1210's were the tables I've always loved and respected. But I had a quick spin on the Vestax PDT-5000's. They're the shit. I'm not gonna say if its better than Technics though, because I didn't really freak it for a long time and plus I don't own one which is the best way to critique shit. But it's a damn good table. You might wanna check this out.
